What to do when your delivery arrives
Thank you for choosing Nicholson’s Butchers Online. Your products were freshly prepared to order and packed on the day of dispatch.
On receipt of your fresh produce, please place it in the fridge straight away. Keep your produce in its original packaging until you’re ready to use it. If you do decide to take your produce out of its original packaging, remember to keep raw products away from cooked products at all times. It’s best to keep cooked products on the top shelf of your fridge and raw meat towards the bottom of your fridge, as this prevents any meat juices from dripping on ready to eat foods.
It’s always best to freeze fresh produce whilst it’s in peak condition. So, if you intend to freeze your fresh produce, please do so on the day that it arrives. Again, keep your produce in its original packaging. The high-grade vacuum bags that we use to pack your meat are great for preventing freezer-burn. These vacuum bags also prevent meat juices from escaping during the defrosting process. Once frozen, use products within three months.
Blooming
Our meat is traditionally matured. This means that it may have a slightly darker appearance when it is first removed from the vacuum bag. There may also be a slight odour. Please do not be alarmed by this. Once the meat has been exposed to the fresh air for around twenty minutes or so, it will regain its bright, natural colour and the odour will fade. This natural process is known as ‘blooming’.
Festive Produce: if your order contains Pigs in Blankets, please do not be alarmed if the ‘pigs’ seem slightly grey in colour – this is perfectly normal. Bacon has a tendency to discolour fresh meat as it contains quite a high level of salt.
